i just realized something

Riven broke her own sword on purpose. (dunno why, but for some reason i had always thought she had broken it on accident during that last fight)

but now I have the mental image of her being like “Noxus sucks now” and breaking it over knee or something

I have a headcanon that she used to have long hair, then cutted it and tied it into the ponytail she wears, to not only break allegiances by breaking the sword that symbolized her ties to Noxus, but also her hair as an asian symbolism of breaking with the past.

What I find ironic is that if she broke her sword to sever her ties with Noxus, why does she still carries it nonetheless?

My self answer has always been as a self punishment, to remind herself of her past, and never forget it. Like if she was willingly self punishing herself (masochist), because she just can’t let that past go. She has to remember it, keep it present, not to commit the same mistakes again.

Her quote “Learn from your mistakes” is basically this. Severing ties and disregarding your past is never a way to move forward. Keeping the past present and learning to cope with it is how you progress.

Riven has amazing character development and there you have the reasons I’m in love with her
